From the old world PvP ranking system, this title is only available to players who played before the first expansion pack.

Ranking order from highest to lowest (for Horde) is as follows:

  • High Warlord
  • Warlord
  • General
  • Lieutenant General
  • Champion
  • Centurion
  • Legionnaire
  • Blood Guard
  • Stone Guard
  • First Seargent
  • Senior Seargent
  • Seargent
  • Grunt
  • Scout

During one of the vanilla patches, Blizzard made it so that killing a player of a higher rank awarded more honor than killing. That's why players still see the name flash up with their rank, although players seem to earn only one honor no matter what the rank was now. Level brackets were also instituted too. For instance, lvl 19s could not get beyond rank 3 (Seargent). Rank 14 could only be obtained by lvl 60s.

In Vanilla this was the last and hardest to get title of the horde.
It is no loner available, until Cataclysm.

This was the highest level title available to WoW classic players.

There was also another even harder title to attain within the old 'vanilla' PvP Honor System, however it was never implemented unfortunately. This title or rank was granted to the player with the number one standing in the past week. It would last for one week and allow the 'City Protector' to use a special spell to teleport him/her to their race's major city just like a second hearthstone.

In the old honor system, the titles would update every reset (weekly). The titles did not last forever, they only lasted for one week. High Warlord was #1 standing of that week, and it wasn't the top player - there could be more than one High Warlord at the same time, although I do not know of a server that had more than four at the same time. It was definitely the highest rank.

to clarify, skullwarrier is saying that the person you saw with high warlord earned it back in vanilla and is still using it

Available again with a rated battleground rating of 2400. If you lose the rating, you still keep the title. Horde-side only.
